In geography, we finished making an infographic about population density. It was really interesting to learn about this because now I have an idea of the size and population of my three countries, Belgium, French Guiana, and Panama.
Belgium Population density: 889 people per square mile
French Guiana Population Density: 6 people per square mile
Panama Population Density: 54 people per square mile.
I think that there are different population densities between these three countries because they have different landscapes. French Guiana has a lot of rainforest, so not as much housing areas in all of it. French Guiana's rainforest probably not suitable for people to live in. Belgium is more metropolitan and has many cities, so they are more packed together. There is a variety of landscapes, but they are nowhere near French Guiana's dense rainforests. Finally, Panama is more mixed in terms of landscape, although there is more forest than metropolitan area.
I thought that your info-graphic is very appealing to look at. It is clear, colorful and it uses some graphs, pictures and words that really stand out. You did an amazing job on all your three countries, good job Tashi.
ResponderExcluirI was very surprised when I found out the life density of Belgium. I never knew they would have 889 people per square mile! When I lived in Belgium, it is true that especially in the cities, it can get extremely crowded. Italy had a density of 208 people per square kilometer. It is different compared to Belgium. Italy has lots of mountains in the Northern area and has half of its population life in the Metropolitan areas, such as Rome and Naples. ( The other half lives near the mountains and rivers for agricultural use.)
French Guiana has only 6 people per square mile. And Costa Rica has a population density of 94 people per kilometer square. Both countries have rain-forests and less areas such as cities or plains to live in. The only difference in Costa Rica is that they actually cut down the rain-forest to gain more space for farms or houses. Costa Rica only has 52,100 square kilometer of Land. Much of Costa Rica's land is filled with forests, mountains and active volcanoes, which gives them a reason to cut down forests to be able to gain more space.
Colombia, with a population density of 44 per kilometer square and Panama with a population density of 54 per square mile are the most similar countries. Both countries, have varied landscapes and climates. Colombia has the mountains, forests, coastal areas and some plains. Panama also has forests, plains and coastal areas. People there have many choices in which areas they would want to live. For example, in Colombia 70% of its population lives near the mountains and not so many life in the Metropolitan areas.
I thought that your overall blog post was very clear, but for next time you could give little more detail about the other factors why the population density is this much. It can depend on the climate, resources, land size or landscapes. Keep it up Tashi!
