Sotaques no São Luiz do Paraitinga

Discussion Question #2
Do you think Tirio is more Takunami or American?  Do you think Tirio will want to stay with the Takunami tribe or return to America with Sara?

I believe that Tirio is more Takunami than American because he was born a Takunami, his first ways he was taught were Takunami and he even speaks the language.  I also think he is from this tribe because the spirit that drives him to prove his Paho wrong is not his American spirit, it is his native spirit that was partially taught by his American one.
For example, on page 129, he says:  "If I'm right- and I'm pretty sure I am - I just stumbled into a caiman's underwater den."   I used this quote as an example, because an American boy, in the dark, would not just automatically know that he had just entered a predator's den, only someone who had already known the jungle the way Tirio does.
I do think that Tirio will stay in the jungle with the Takunami to partially bring shame over his father for outcasting him from the tribe and also to show his ability to be able to become a Takunami warrior, to show that yes, he was outcast, but when he came back, he came back with the capability of not only being a warrior physically, but he is a warrior in his soul.

Ethnicity Reflection

In humanities today, we talked about what forms your identity, and one of the topics was ethnicity.  We filled out a google form about where our grandparents are from.  Then, as a class, we analyzed our answers.  Some of the things that stood out in my mind was that people's nationalities were completely different from their ethnicity.  The varieties of languages that people spoke varied from english to tagalog or portuguese to arabic.  After that, we talked about how nationality is different from ethnicity.  Things that different people said were really deep and made me understand the importance of someone's ethnicity.  Like, for example there was someone who's nationality was american, but their ethnicity was brazilian and mongolian.  I really enjoyed this because we started to understand the importance of someone's identity through where they are from.

Analysis

In Tirio Chapter 6, Sara and Tirio are going to the airport to go to Manaus, in the Amazon, where they will go to the research camp.  Tirio's mind is preoccupied by his soche seche tente.  He is slowly showing signs that he is becoming Takunami, like when, on page 101, it says, "The potoo becomes a qui-ra; a bay owl, a kwanho; the blue-tailed bee-eater, a tsu-fle.  I am wondering why does we not want to live with Sara, or why is he just willing to through away his life as an american boy?
In Tirio Chapter 7, Tirio waits for Sara and Juan Diego to fall asleep so that he can sneak out of the cabin to do his test.  After letting the caimans lead him, and after the motor on his boat dies, he sees all of the signs that indicate that it is time for his test to start.

In Luka Chapter 6, we learn that Karara has not returned since Maha sent her away.  Meanwhile, Luka and Maha are preparing for Luka's test and one of the challenges is to lure a deadly spider, one that is more dangerous than a fer de lance.  We also learn that Luka's Paho saw the Punhana and soon after died.
In Luka Chapter 7, Luka has just found out his Paho died and is having a very hard time processing it.  We also find out that he lived longer because of Karara.  We also learn that Maha was dissapointed in the fact that Karara came out a girl, so when it was time for Luka, Paho had to drink a potion to make sure it was a boy.  Paho then had an overdose, which was fatal.

ScreenShots on a Mac

In 1:1 toolkit today we were assigned to learn how to do something that we do not know how to do.  I did not know how to take a screenshot on a mac.  I found to ways.  One was to press  Command, Shift and then 4 or Command, Ctrl, Shift, 3.
I also know how to edit your picture. When the shot goes onto your screen, double click on in and then, there are edit choices, like adding words and arrows. To add, click on the little pencil in the right hand corner. I think that this is a useful so that, for example if there is a certain fact on a website that you find useful, but bookmarking the page just takes up room, you can simply take a screenshot.  Here is the link that I used to find these facts. This is a video also:
